VIDEO TRAINING MODULES
Harassment and Violence Prevention Regulations, and the Canadian Human Rights Act, outlining the processes for filing formal reports and complaints. The overarching goal of the training is to 1) to help individuals understand their rights and 2) to provide information and resources to those providing support to workers experiencing harassment and violence at work.

Developed by Respect at Work at the Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women & Children (CREVAWC) at Western University, this training was created in collaboration with Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Centre representatives across Canada and funded by the Government of Canada’s Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Fund.
The focus is on federal legislation and participants are encouraged to review relevant health and safety laws and human rights legislation in their respective provinces or territories. This training is for educational purposes only and should not be considered legal advice. For further guidance, individuals should seek independent legal counsel.

Duration: 1 hour in total
Module One: Introduction
This module introduces key legal protections, reporting/complaint procedures, and employer responsibilities, under the Canada Labour Code (the Regulations) and the Canadian Human Rights Act. It outlines which workplaces fall under federal regulation and how employees in these sectors are protected under federal legislation​.

Module Two: Reporting Sexual Harassment and Violence under the Canada Labour Code
​
This module explores the process for reporting sexual harassment and violence, and related workers’ rights in federally regulated workplaces under the Canada Labour Code (the Regulations). The training will explore employers’ obligations which include training, policies and procedures, workplace assessments and ensuring safe reporting avenues, as well as outlining the resolution process when a report of harassment and violence is made.

Module Three: Canadian Human Rights Act Complaint Process
This module explores the Canadian Human Rights Act and its protections. This module also provides a step-by-step guide to the Canadian Human Rights Commission’s (CHRC) complaint process, outlining:

How to file a complaint

The CHRC’s review and processing of complaints

The role of mediation and conciliation
-
The investigation process
-
How decisions are made
Participants will gain a clear understanding of the CHRC’s role in addressing workplace discrimination and sexual harassment, as well as the rights and responsibilities of both employers and employees under the Act.

TOOLKIT
This toolkit was developed by researchers at the Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women & Children to complement the knowledge shared in the Supporting Workers Experiencing Sexual Harassment and Violence in Federally Regulated Workplaces training modules. The primary goal of this toolkit is to provide practical resources to support workers experiencing discrimination and sexual harassment at work. All resources included in this toolkit are free to use and may be shared freely.
